Belonging Begins With Being Seen

When Ella first walked through the doors of Saint Mary School, she was beginning a new chapter.

Like many children entering a new school community, Ella was excited to make friends, find her place, and feel connected. But belonging does not always happen instantly. Sometimes children need time, patience, and a caring community that sees beyond the moment and recognizes the person they are becoming.

At Saint Mary School, one teacher did just that.

With patience, encouragement, and gentle guidance, Ella’s teacher helped her navigate friendships, recognize social cues, and discover that listening can be just as powerful as sharing her own voice. Through countless small conversations and moments of encouragement, Ella grew not only in confidence, but in empathy, self-awareness, and resilience.

Today, Ella is a thriving upper elementary student. She walks into school with confidence. She has meaningful friendships. She participates in class with joy. Most importantly, she knows she belongs.

There was no single moment that changed everything.

There were hundreds of small moments.

A teacher who noticed.
A teacher who believed.
Classmates who welcomed.
A community that encouraged.

These are the moments that help children discover who they are and who they are called to become.
