About Us

SAINT MARY SCHOOL, located in beautiful Ridgefield, Connecticut, is a warm and welcoming Catholic school in the Diocese of Bridgeport serving Ridgefield and neighboring towns including Wilton, Danbury, Redding, Stamford, Brewster, Katonah, North Salem and more. Saint Mary School is a place where children thrive because they are known and loved.  Our 250 Preschool through Grade 8 students call Saint Mary School their home away from home.

KNOWN

Yes, we know every child by name, but we know so much more! We know what our students like to do on the weekends, what their favorite books are, and what captures their imaginations. By seeking connections with our students, we build relationships that last a lifetime.

LOVED

Each of our students possesses talents and gifts, and we value each and every one of them. We value them for not only what they are destined to become, but for the unique wonders that they are today.

PREPARED

Whether we are preparing our littlest learners for kindergarten or our older students for high school, Saint Mary School students are equipped to enter the next stage of their educational journey with confidence and the foundation to thrive.

Parents, SMS Class of 2028

When my wife and I considered schools for our daughter, Catholic school wasn't something we'd ever pictured for our family; we both grew up attending public schools. Choosing Saint Mary was a leap of faith in every sense, and it has been one of the best decisions we've made as parents. What I want to say most about Saint Mary School is that it isn't just a school, it's a family. From the security guards who escort our children in each morning to the office staff who always have a kind word, every single person at Saint Mary School genuinely cares. The teachers and administrators don't just educate, they nurture. They are shaping our daughter's character, her sense of morality, and her understanding of what it means to be part of something bigger than herself - and my wife and I couldn't be prouder. We have Saint Mary School to thank for that. Saint Mary School is a small, tight-knit community that miraculously runs beautifully through the dedication of its staff in partnership with its parents and the church. We are grateful every day that our daughter is growing up in such a loving, supportive, faith-filled environment, and we're proud to be part of this community.

Parents, Class of 2032

Our family has been part of Saint Mary’s School since our daughter entered PK3, and seeing her now in second grade we could not be happier. The school has nurtured her mind and her heart guiding her through her first foundational years. We love that faith is not just a subject, but permeates all the aspects of the day, helping her develop a loving relationship with God. She has blossomed in confidence and kindness, and we know we made the right decision for her academic future.

SMS has been such a blessing for our family. At just three years old, our daughter brings her faith home—saying grace at the dinner table and sharing the stories she is learning about Jesus with excitement and joy. Seeing her wonder and enthusiasm fills our home with warmth and reminds us why we chose SMS. In a world that is always changing, we are so grateful she is growing up in a community where faith, kindness, and love guide each day.

We put all three of our daughters through Saint Mary School, from preschool to 8th grade. I wish we had strong enough words to encapsulate our feelings toward this school and its staff! Excellence, nurturing, fulfilling, empathetic and steadfast in faith come to mind. If you are a young family looking for a phenomenal school experience that will lay an unparalleled foundation to your child, I don't know of one that rivals Saint Mary School. We are beyond grateful for our experience there.

Our son absolutely loves Saint Mary School and his teacher, Ms. Secchi. In such a short time he has made great friends, and he continues to surprise us each day with new things he has learned. We are incredibly grateful for the nurturing, joyful environment the school provides, and, since we are new to Ridgefield, we are thankful as a family to be a part of this amazing community.

Since transferring our children from public school to Saint Mary’s three years ago, we have witnessed beautiful growth in both of my children, inside and out. We truly believe the school’s strong faith foundation and academic support have led them to a much higher level of achievement. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this school is. The teachers are incredibly patient, passionate, and caring. Because of the years my children have spent at Saint Mary’s, we have great confidence in our children’s future.

What has meant the most to our family is the incredible sense of community at Saint Mary School. The school provides a safe, faith-centered environment where our children are truly known and cared for. Along the way, we’ve formed lifelong friendships with other parents - relationships that have become an unexpected and deeply valued part of our Saint Mary experience.

When my daughters joined Saint Mary School two years ago from a very different learning environment, I was understandably concerned about how they would adapt to a new school, new peers, and a new approach to learning. Nearly two years later, I can say with confidence that the experience has exceeded my expectations. The dedication of the teachers, administrators, and the broader school community has made all the difference. My daughters are thriving both socially and academically.

I sent both of my kids to Saint Mary School for preschool, switching them from 2s programs at other local preschools to attend PK3 and PK4 there. The school does a great job of balancing academics, faith and fun in a structured yet nurturing environment. The kids are incredibly well prepared for kindergarten by the end of the program

The one thing that sets Saint Mary School apart from any secular private school or public school is that it is God-centered. Life is better when you focus on God. Both of my children have expressed that they are glad they attend SMS after spending a few years in the public school system. SMS provides a close-knit, diverse, faith-oriented community that gives my children the opportunity for growth through failures, correction, success and the mirror of friends and teachers. Saint Mary School is faith in action. My children are supported in learning about Catholic values and what it means to be a part of the Body of Christ in the modern world. The community prays together every morning before the Pledge of Allegiance. The teachers at Saint Mary School are knowledgeable about the subjects they teach and the children in their classrooms. Our learning community is holistic and provides a structure for children and families to rely on as they grow in faith and in doing so learn more about themselves and how they fit into the larger community of Ridgefield and beyond.
