Education:
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry. I received my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development from the College of New Rochelle.
When did you join the SMS Family?
I have been teaching for 24 years and joined the Saint Mary’s family in September of 2011.
Did you always want to be a teacher?
I am from a family of teachers and was always impacted by both my family, along with my own elementary school teachers. From the time I can remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. There was truly no other career I could imagine myself doing. I played “school” with my 2 little sisters! I, of course, was the teacher! 🙂I attended a small 1-8 Catholic School for 8 years so Saint Mary School holds a very special place in my heart, as it reminds me of my own school experience.
Why is Transitional Kindergarten referred to as “the Gift of a Year”?
I am incredibly passionate about my Transitional Kindergarten class, as the progress and growth both academically and socially is tremendous! Allowing the “gift of another year” is just that, a gift. Every child develops in their own time, has their own strengths, and their own interests. I believe each child should be tapped into as an individual, and this extra year will allow them to gain the confidence and skills to go on and have a successful academic career. My belief as a teacher has always been that a classroom should be a child’s “home away from home”.
What do you like to do outside of school?
My favorite thing to do is to spend time with my 2 adult children as much as I can and have my whole family together at the beach for Summer vacation! The beach is my absolute most favorite place!!! 😀
Do you have a favorite quote?
My favorite quote is “Trust your journey”. God has a plan and we need to trust the path he has planned for us.
