Getting to Know Mrs. Amenta – New MS Math Teacher

Dear Grades 5, 6 and 7 Families,

As the school year winds down, I would like to take a moment to express how excited I am to be the new middle school math teacher at SMS! I have gotten to know some of you in my present role as the third grade teacher, and I look forward to meeting the rest of you this coming school year.

As an SMS parent, I was delighted to join the faculty in the fall of 2023. SMS is a community where academic focus meets a commitment to moral and spiritual growth. Therefore, it was a privilege to have the opportunity to contribute to SMS as the third grade teacher this year. However, I have always had a particular passion for math and am grateful for the chance to transition to this new role.

Prior to joining the SMS faculty, I was a middle school math interventionist at New Fairfield Middle School. During this time I incorporated hands-on lessons and provided real-world context, as well as encouraged students to make interdisciplinary connections. Having obtained Connecticut certifications in both middle school and high school math, I also appreciate the importance of preparing students for their math studies beyond their years at SMS.

To tell you a little bit about myself outside of the classroom, I am originally from Maine, but have lived in Ridgefield for almost seven years, and been a member of Saint Mary Parish that whole time. My daughter, Iris, is a current SMS sixth grader, so some of you may already know her. We have five pets, whom we adore. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, dancing, and traveling.

I look forward to a fun and productive year with your child. In the meantime, have a relaxing and memorable summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sandy Amenta
